The fact is, people today are increasingly seeking products, services and whatever a person would want or need, simply by searching online. The comes a time when you just have to try something new.
This past week I saw an incredible waste of paper and trees as the standard-issue phone books and yellow pages were strewn onto people’s laws or crammed into mail boxes. Ours went straight to the paper recycling bin, after we had taken off the plastic cover, of course.
Why save cumbersome volumes and take extra time lumbering through phone books when a few touches of your fingers on the display of a cell phone will show you what’s available immediately? One of the reasons Internet websites are so important is because they save a lot of time for people who want to quickly get what they need. Craig Davis, the creative officer of Walter Thompson, the world’s fourth largest ad agency, said the following:
“Audiences everywhere are tough. They don’t have time to be bored or brow beaten by orthodox, old-fashioned advertising. We need to stop interrupting what people are interested in & be what people are interested in.”
The market of the East End of Long Island and the Hamptons caters to an especially tough and demanding consumer at times. Having a practical website almost goes without saying if a business wishes to be taken seriously and be found online. The next questions would be: “Is your website mobile friendly?” and “Do you have some interesting content on your website that will attract and engage readers?” These are also important questions.
There is a gradual shift away from blasting people with magazine ads and “interruption marketing” towards the development of more “inbound marketing”, that is, marketing aimed at attracting people to your website or business location. This trend will only increase. According to a New York Times survey, in a Millenial is even interested in watching television, he or she will most likely watch a show online and watch little or no mainstream broadcast television.
It used to be that starting up a website was a costly and extremely time-consuming affair. Not anymore. One reason I prefer WordPress is because there are many platforms of built-in functionality that allow for a fairly smooth and quick process when it comes to creating a new website and launching it.
